I am sure most of us have been asked to choose one or combinations of the following tools to build an Enterprise Data Warehouse.
(1) BW on HANA
(2) Enterprise HANA
(3) HANA Live
It's an interesting topic and I have discussed this with various folks. There are number of factors that we need to consider before we finalize these tools. It varies based on customer, eco systems(source, ETL and reporting tools) in the landscape, support team...etc. I have listed some of the key factors and compared with these 3 tools.
Criteria | BW on HANA | Enterprise HANA | HANA Live |
---|---|---|---|
Significant current BW investment | Yes | ||
Significant SAP sources | Yes | ||
Significant non-SAP sources | Yes | ||
Zero data latency and operational reporting from SAP systems | Yes | ||
Business content delivery | Yes | Yes | |
Data cleansing & Data harmonization | Yes | Yes | |
Time dependent master data | More | Limited | Limited |
Reuse features(e.g.:Hierarchy) from SAP business suite | Yes | ||
Integration with big data | Limited | More | |
Planning capabilities | More | Less | |
Predictive analystics | Limited | More | |
Maturity of tool | More | Less | Less |
Availabitly of competent resources | More | Less | Less |
Here is the summary if we need to do this in 1 line.
- May go with enterprise HANA + HANA live if BW is currently not in the landscape
- May go with BW on HANA and HANA live if BW has been in the landscpae for a while
